Biography Emiel Scholsberg
Born on the 26th of July 1972, Emiel grew up in a multicultural family. When his Dutch mother and Surinam father finally decided tot settle in the Netherlands,
he was four years old. From his early childhood on, Emiel always wanted to learn to play the guitar. Finally, when he got eight years old,
he got his first acoustic guitar. This instrument from then on has never stopped to amaze and to attract him. Now, almost thirty-two years later,
Emiel is an experienced, skilful guitarist, who has been developing through the years into a flexible player, mastering many different styles.
Growing up with gospel and soul, he began to develop a love for the guitar that from his 17th birthday on turned him more and more into a serious player.
He since then played for several bands, Black Gospel choirs, he supported artists, took part in studioprojects, composed and arranged. Characteristics
of his playing are the honesty of his sound, the purity of his tone. He successfully finished his five year guitarstudy as one of the first ever graduated
from the new Dutch Rockacademy. Also busy teaching, recording, doing sessions and composing, his days are filled with music. In 2002, he became an
endorser for the great Hughes & Kettner Zentera head. Just recently he performed his first and very own musictheaterproduction Luctor et Emergo,
a music show that combines all sorts of musical influences (classical, jazz, gospel, rock, metal, noise, Indian, African, South-American, Japanese)
with dance and a spectacular lightshow, taking the audience on a worldwide trip. In composing, Emiel Scholsberg is able to mingle in all the influences
he did undergo during his growth as a human being and a musician. It also gives him the opportunity to work in different fields, with different people.
Right now, for instance, concerning the Luctor project, he works with (amongst others) Juan van Emmerloot and Walter Latupeirissa, a great rhythmsection
that regularly toured in Europe with musicians like Steve Lukather, Walter Trout, Pat Travers, Whitesnake, and so forth. During the years through which
he developed as a musician, he also got to know Coen Pots, a great guitarplayer, and they became close friends. Early 2003, it was Coen who introduced
Emiel to Fred Hendrix, leadsinger/frontman and songwriter of the former hardrockformation Terra Nova, now working on a new album for his new project: Aquila.
After years of having followed different roads, finally Coen and Emiel got the opportunity to join forces and become the axe-men for Aquila.
It worked out great. Coen, being more of a traditional rockguitarplayer, influenced by the likes of the infamous Eddie VanHalen, Steve Lukather, and Emiel,
influenced by Hendrix, Steve Vai, Scott Henderson, Mike Landau and thus coming from a more experimental perspective, kept inspiring and motivating
each other in the studio, which led to the guitar arrangements they wrote and recorded for the new Aquila release “Man With A Mission”.
